Navigating regulatory complexity focus at key annual event
Supporting clients to navigate a complex and evolving regulatory environment was one of the main takeaways from the recent major annual STEP Cayman Conference and International Wealth Structuring Forum.
Suntera Global’s Tamara Hill, Client Services Director, and Angella Williams-Myers, Head of Private Wealth in Cayman, attended the sold-out event this year (23-24 January), with both highlighting the particular focus across the agenda on the regulatory landscape - including navigating digital trusts, beneficial ownership registers and UK non-dom changes, as well as wider international reporting, compliance and enforcement considerations.
Commenting on the two-day event, Tamara said: “This was an insightful and comprehensive event into the latest trends and developments in trust and estate planning and it was fascinating to hear from such high-calibre industry experts, legal professionals and thought leaders.”
In particular, the event explored the impact of recent amendments to the Cayman Islands perpetuities legislation, in which greater freedom is granted to settlors, and the potential ramifications for existing trusts.
“There was a real focus on regulatory developments this year,” added Tamara. “What’s clear is that staying abreast of international compliance standards whilst at the same time balancing those obligations with meeting the increasingly diverse needs of clients is absolutely critical.”
