Suntera Global’s Ian Horswell and Mark Vidamour reflect on Suntera Global’s recent sponsorship and attendance at the flagship Guernsey Funds Forum in London.
Optimism about the future of alternatives, a need to continue to innovate, and confidence in Guernsey’s funds platform were amongst the themes to come out strongly from delegates and the audience at this year’s flagship Guernsey Funds Forum, held earlier this month in London.
Hosted at 155 Bishopsgate in London on 15 May, the well-attended event focused on the future of the funds sector, with panel sessions and keynote speakers addressing topics including sustainability, technology, tokenisation and structuring.
In particular, speakers were sanguine about recent market volatility pointing to optimism amongst managers and investors who were starting to green shoots in terms of activity in raising new funds. With central bank interest rate cuts on the horizon, panellists suggested that the industry would soon be in a position where it could move back in favour of investors putting capital into funds, rather than relying on returns through low-risk cash investments.
In addition, there was the suggestion that continuation funds and managed accounts would continue to be the order of the day, whilst the potential for political change in the UK could prompt tax rates on Carried Interest to increase. This, it was suggested, might result in fund managers looking to close current funds which are in carry and transfer assets to new continuation funds. This would provide the potential for liquidity for investors, who may then look to reinvest the returns in new fund structures.
Commenting on the event, Ian Horswell, Global Head of Business Development – Funds at Suntera Global – who were a sponsor of the event - said:
“The Guernsey Funds Forum this year had an expectant buzz about the future. There was a really high level of interaction between attendees and exhibitors, and an extremely positive feeling about both the alternatives sector generally but also Guernsey’s role in supporting high quality activity. In tandem, there was considerable interest in Suntera and our evolving and growing proposition in Guernsey.”
Mark Vidamour, Head of Corporate and Fund Services at Suntera Global in Guernsey, added:
“The event was hugely popular once again this year, with a fantastic number of attendees all looking to discover how Guernsey can assist their needs. The Guernsey Finance team put on some excellent panel sessions demonstrating Guernsey’s flexible funds regime and highlighting its talent pool and excellent experience within the island. It was fantastic to be associated with such a strong showcase of our sector, to such an important audience.”
